How to provide proof of employment or income

Applies to: US W-2 employees, current and former, who need their employment or income verified. If you are an independent contractor you are not on Ascen payroll, so this service does not cover you — email support@ascen.com and we will confirm what we can provide.

Summary: Ascen uses Thomas & Company, an independent verification provider, to process all employment and income verification requests. When a lender, landlord, government agency, or other authorized party needs to verify your employment or income, you do not need to complete the verification forms yourself.

For employment-only verification, provide the verifier with the verification website (tncverify.com), Ascen’s company code, ASCEN, and your Social Security number.

For verification that includes income or wage information, you must also generate a one-time verifier PIN and provide it to the verifier along with Ascen’s company code and your Social Security number.

If you are applying for a loan, renting an apartment, or completing paperwork for a government or social service program, the requester often needs to confirm where you work and how much you earn. This is handled through an independent employment and wage verification service, not by you filling out a form. This article explains what to give the requester so they can complete the verification quickly.

The two kinds of verification

Employment only — Confirms that you work (or worked) with your employer. This does not require any action from you beyond sharing two pieces of information.

Employment and income (wage) — Also releases your earnings. Because this shares your pay details, it requires your consent in the form of a one-time verifier PIN that you generate and hand to the requester.

For employment-only verification

Give the person or company requesting the verification the following, and they can complete it themselves online:
1. The company code: ASCEN
2. Your Social Security Number

They visit tncverify.com, choose to get started, and follow the steps on the site. There is nothing else you need to do.

For employment and income (wage) verification

To release your income, you generate a verifier PIN and share it. The PIN is your electronic release of your wage information.

Step 1 — Generate your verifier PIN
1. Go to the employee access portal at tncverify.com and choose Get Started, then Employee Access.
2. Complete the log-in and verify your email address.
3. On the home page, find the Generate Verifier PIN option and start it.
4. Review the confirmation page and the terms. If everything is correct, agree and finish.
5. Your verifier PIN is displayed. You can email it, print it, or write it down.

Step 2 — Give the requester these three things
1. Your verifier PIN
2. Your Social Security Number
3. The company code: ASCEN

With those, the requester can complete an instant employment and wage verification at tncverify.com.

Government or social service requests

If the request comes from a government or social service agency (for example, for a benefits program), that agency can submit its request directly to the verification service, including through its government portal. You generally do not need to generate a PIN for these — but if the agency asks you for one, follow the wage-verification steps above.

Good to know

Ascen does not complete these verifications directly — they are handled by an independent verification partner called Thomas & Company, which is why the process runs through the tncverify.com site.

Your verifier PIN protects your income information. Only share it with a requester you trust and who actually needs your wage details.

Your Social Security Number and the company code ASCEN are what tie the request to your record, so make sure the requester has both spelled correctly.
