How do I get an attendance point removed?

Last updated: November 4, 2026

Applies to: US W-2 employees whose worksite tracks attendance with points or occurrences. Independent contractors don't earn sick leave through Ascen, so the sick time steps below don't apply to them.

Summary: Ascen doesn't run your worksite's attendance points program, so we can't add or remove a point. To ask for a point to be removed, follow your worksite's absence process and speak with your manager or your staffing partner. If you were out sick, also submit a sick time request in your Ascen account and attach your doctor's note, so the time can be reviewed for pay.

Who decides what

  • The attendance point: your worksite. The attendance policy, points, call-outs and any coaching are set and handled by the client you work for or your staffing partner. Send a point removal request, and any note that supports it, through their process.

  • Whether the time off is paid as sick time: Ascen. We are your employer, so we review and approve sick time requests.

These are two separate decisions. An approved sick time request does not by itself remove a point, and removing a point does not create or pay any sick time.

What to do

  1. Ask about the point through your worksite. Follow your worksite's call-out and absence process, and speak with your manager or your staffing partner about the point.

  2. If you were out sick, submit a sick time request. Open Time Off, choose Create Time Off Request, pick sick as the reason, enter the dates and hours, and attach your note to the request. Emailing a note to Ascen does not create a request, so the time is not reviewed for pay until you submit one. See How do I enter sick time?

  3. If you missed only part of a shift, for example you arrived late after a medical appointment for you or a family member, request only the hours you missed. Whether that reason is covered by paid sick leave varies by your work location. See How paid sick leave works.

When to email Ascen instead

Email support@ascen.com with your name, your worksite and the dates if:

  • The point was given for an absence you took as paid sick leave, or one that paid sick leave could have covered. In many states and cities paid sick leave is a legal entitlement of employment, and the rules on how such an absence can be treated vary by work location. Our HR team will review it.

  • You have an ongoing or recurring health condition and need a change to your schedule, duties or time off because of it. Our HR team handles these requests.

  • You need to be away for longer than a few days. That is a leave question rather than a sick day. See Taking a leave of absence.

Where to get help

  • Your manager or your staffing partner: the attendance point itself, calling out, and your schedule.

  • Ascen, support@ascen.com: sick time requests and balances, paid sick leave where you work, and the HR questions listed above.
