What is hospital indemnity insurance?

Summary: Hospital indemnity insurance is optional supplemental coverage that pays fixed cash benefits if you're hospitalized. It's not a substitute for major medical — it helps with out-of-pocket and household costs during a hospital stay.

If you receive covered hospital care, the plan (HIPP – Mid) pays fixed daily cash benefits:
- Hospital admission: $1,000 (up to 2 days per year)
- Hospital confinement: $150/day
- ICU confinement: $150/day (up to 364 days per year)

Monthly cost: employee only $7.75 · +spouse $15.85 · +child(ren) $16.40 · +family $26.39.
