Where do I enter my overtime hours?
Last updated: August 25, 2026
Applies to: US W-2 employees and Canadian T4 employees who enter their own time in Ascen. Overtime laws generally do not apply to independent contractors, and employees working outside the US and Canada follow their local overtime rules and do not enter time in Ascen.
Summary: There is no separate box for overtime on your timesheet. You enter every hour you worked the same way, and overtime is worked out for you from those hours.
Just enter all your hours normally
If time entry is enabled for your assignment, record your overtime hours exactly like your regular hours:
Log in at app.ascen.com and open Timesheets.
Click Enter Time.
For each day you worked, enter the date, start time, end time, and any unpaid break time.
Submit the timesheet.
You do not need to split your day into "regular" and "overtime," flag anything as overtime, or submit a second timesheet for the extra hours. Enter the full shift and let the calculation happen.
How overtime gets applied
Overtime is derived from the hours on your submitted timesheet. Once your time is processed, any hours that qualify are separated out and paid at the applicable overtime rate, and they show as their own line on your pay stub — so you can confirm it was applied.
The thresholds that trigger overtime vary by your work location. Federal law sets a floor for US W-2 employees, and some states add daily thresholds or double-time rules on top of it. Canadian provinces have their own rules. To understand which rule applies to you, see How US employee overtime and double-time pay work, or check the labour standards authority for the state or province where you perform the work.
If you don't see an Enter Time button
On some assignments time entry is turned off in your Ascen portal because your staffing Partner or the client submits hours through their own system. In that case your overtime is reported wherever your regular hours are reported. Ask your staffing Partner which system to use and what the deadline is. See How to enter your time (when time entry is enabled).
If your overtime doesn't look right
Check the daily rows on your timesheet first — a missing shift or a wrong break is the usual cause. If the hours are right but the overtime looks wrong on your pay, email support@ascen.com with the week ending date and what you expected.
Who to contact
Ascen — support@ascen.com: overtime that was calculated or paid incorrectly, and timesheet corrections.
Your staffing Partner: whether you are authorized to work overtime, your schedule, and where to submit time if it is not entered in Ascen.
