What benefits do Canadian T4 employees get through Ascen?
Last updated: October 28, 2026
Applies to: Employees in Canada paid through Ascen on a T4. US W-2 employees should see the US Benefits Enrollment Guide. Independent contractors do not receive employee benefits.
Summary: Ascen's US benefit plans (the UnitedHealthcare medical, dental and vision plans and the US 401(k)) do not apply to employees in Canada. As a T4 employee you get the government programs every Canadian employer provides, and whether you also have a private group benefits plan through Ascen depends on your assignment. Email support@ascen.com to find out what applies to you.
What every T4 employee has
These come with being an employee in Canada, through payroll and your province:
Canada Pension Plan (CPP), or the Quebec Pension Plan in Quebec, and Employment Insurance (EI). Your contributions are deducted from your pay and Ascen pays the employer share.
Workers' compensation through your provincial board if you are hurt at work.
Vacation pay, statutory holidays and sick leave as your province's employment standards require. The amounts vary by province.
Provincial health insurance for doctor and hospital care, which you get as a resident of your province, not through your employer.
Group benefits plan
If your offer letter or your staffing partner told you that benefits are included with your assignment, email support@ascen.com and we will confirm what you are enrolled in and send you the plan details.
What does not apply in Canada
The US health plans described in the US Benefits Enrollment Guide.
The Ascen 401(k). For retirement savings in Canada, see the Canada Revenue Agency's information on RRSPs and TFSAs, or a financial adviser.
