Why did my pay arrive in more than one deposit?

Applies to: US and Canadian workers paid through Ascen who received their pay as more than one deposit for the same period, or who saw several payments land on different days.

Summary: Pay is released per batch of approved time, not per week. Anything approved after a payroll run has already gone — a late shift, overtime added afterwards, approved sick time — is picked up by the next run and arrives as its own deposit. Two deposits usually means nothing is missing.

Why pay can arrive in pieces

We pay time once it has been approved and a payroll run turns it into a payment. Time that is approved after that run has closed isn't held back to be bundled with the next week — it goes out on the next run on its own. Common reasons you would see a second deposit:

• Hours approved late. A shift your approver confirmed after the cutoff moves to the next run.

• Something added after the fact. Overtime or a missed shift identified after your regular hours were already processed is paid as its own item.

• Approved sick time or time off. Leave is a separate time type from worked hours, so once approved it can be paid separately from the paycheck covering that week. See How do I enter sick time?.

• More than one week clearing at once. If approvals were outstanding for a couple of weeks, each week becomes its own payment and several can land within a few days of each other.

How to check what each deposit covers

Open Paychecks in your portal. Each payment is listed separately with the period it covers and its own pay stub, so you can match the deposits in your bank against the periods here. See Where is my paycheck? How to check your pay status.

Add the deposits together before concluding that something is short — a single week split across two payments can look like an underpayment when each is viewed on its own.

When it is not just a split

If the deposits together still don't add up to the hours you worked and had approved, treat it as a short paycheck rather than a timing question, and follow My paycheck is short or missing hours — what to do. Note that a correction you report to us is usually applied as an adjustment on a future paycheck rather than sent out immediately, which is the opposite of the pattern above — so expect that one to ride your next regular pay.
