When you receive distributions (funded partners)
Last updated: August 27, 2026
For funded partners, a distribution is the payout of your earnings, and it is released after your client pays the related invoice.
What is a distribution?
A distribution is the payout of your funds to you. For funded partners, Ascen funds payroll and collects payment from your client. Once your client pays, we release your share of that invoice back to you as a distribution, sent to your connected bank account.
Each distribution is tied to a client invoice, so you can see exactly which billing period it relates to.
When are distributions paid?
The key timing rule: your distribution is released after your client pays the related invoice. We do not release your distribution before the client has paid.
The typical flow is:
1. We invoice your client for the work in a billing period.
2. Your client pays that invoice.
3. Once the invoice is marked as paid, your distribution is created and the transfer to your bank is initiated (it can take 5-7 business days to hit your account)
4. You receive an automated message when your distribution is being processed. From there, the funds take some time to settle in your bank account depending on your payout method and bank.
Because the release is triggered by client payment, the exact date you receive a distribution depends on when your client pays. Faster client payment means a faster distribution.
Where to see your distribution status in the portal
You can view your distributions and their status in the portal under your distributions/payments section. Common statuses you may see include:
- Open — the distribution has been created but the transfer has not yet been sent.
- Processing — the transfer to your bank has been initiated and is on its way.
- Paid — the transfer has completed.
- Failed — the transfer did not go through. If you see this, check that your payout details are complete and up to date, and contact support if needed.
You will also receive automated email notifications when an invoice is paid and when a distribution begins processing.
Things that can delay a distribution
A distribution can only be released once your payout setup is complete and in good standing. The most common reasons a payout is held are:
- Missing or incomplete tax forms (for example, a W-9 for US entities or a W-8BEN/W-8BEN-E for foreign entities).
- A missing or incomplete business/payout address.
- Incomplete or unverified payout (bank) details.
If a distribution is delayed and you are not sure why, email support@ascen.com with the client and period and we will tell you what is holding it.
When a distribution may be withheld or applied elsewhere
Even after a client pays, part or all of a distribution may be held back or put toward something else in two situations:
You have invoices that are seriously overdue. If you have other invoices that are more than 60 days past their due date, we may withhold from your distributions to cover the overdue amount until it's brought current. Keeping your invoices paid on time avoids this.
You've chosen to fund a client through your distributions. If you fund a client's payroll through your own distributions (a partner-funded client), your distributions tied to that client are applied to fund that client's payroll rather than paid out to you. This is a setup choice for that client — email support@ascen.com if you're unsure whether it applies to you.
