Why did I get an Assignment Withdrawn email?

Last updated: October 28, 2026

Applies to: staffing Partners who received an email from Ascen titled Assignment Withdrawn and want to know whether it was sent in error and what it means for the worker.

Summary: The Assignment Withdrawn email means an assignment that had been submitted to Ascen for approval was pulled back before it was approved, for example because it was added by mistake. Nothing is deleted and nothing else changes: that one assignment goes back to Pending (a draft with your team), and the worker's other assignments, including a Live assignment they are already working on, are not affected. If nobody on your team expected the withdrawal, email support@ascen.com and we will check it.

What withdrawn means

An assignment can only be withdrawn while it is Awaiting approval: submitted to Ascen but not yet approved. Withdrawing takes it out of our approval queue and puts it back to Pending. Everything that was entered on it is kept.

A withdrawal can be made by:

  • someone on your team with an owner, admin or manager role, or

  • Ascen, for example when an assignment was added by mistake, or when you ask us to withdraw it.

The email is sent automatically when a withdrawal happens, so it reflects a real change to that assignment rather than a glitch. The thing to check is whether the withdrawal was intended.

What it does and does not change

What it does:

  • Moves that one assignment back to Pending. A Pending assignment is with your team. It is not in our approval queue, and it will not be approved or go live unless it is submitted again.

  • Keeps the assignment and its details. Nothing is deleted.

What it does not do:

  • It does not touch the worker's other assignments. Each assignment is a separate record, and a worker can hold more than one (for example, one per client). A Live assignment the worker already has carries on as before.

  • It does not end a live assignment. An assignment that has already been approved cannot be withdrawn. Stopping a live assignment is a separate action called ending, described in How do I end an assignment?.

  • It is not a denial. Denied is a different status, used when Ascen was not able to approve an assignment.

  • It is not something the worker did. Workers cannot withdraw assignments.

What to check

  1. Open Assignments and find the assignment. It should now show Pending.

  2. Look at the worker's other assignments. The one you expect them to work on should show Live (approved, so work can go ahead) or Awaiting approval (submitted and with us for review).

  3. Ask your team whether someone withdrew it on purpose.

Then:

If the worker's onboarding shows a different client

If you noticed a different client on a worker's onboarding around the time of this email, check all of that worker's assignments in Assignments. A second assignment for the other client, for example one that was started and then withdrawn, may be what you saw. A withdrawn assignment does not replace or change the worker's Live assignment. If the worker's Live assignment is with the client you expect but their onboarding still shows the other client, email support@ascen.com.

Can I turn these emails off?

Yes, for your own account. Open the Notifications page in your account settings and switch off Assignment is withdrawn in the Assignments group. This changes only your own settings, not your colleagues'. With it off you will not be emailed when an assignment is withdrawn, so you would need to check assignment statuses in Assignments yourself.

When to email us

Email support@ascen.com with the worker's name, the client and the assignment if:

  • nobody on your team withdrew the assignment and you want to know why,

  • the assignment the worker should be working on does not show Live or Awaiting approval, or

  • you need an assignment withdrawn but your role does not include the option.
