Accepting your assignment

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Applies to: Employees and independent contractors in the US and Canada. International EOR employees should follow instructions sent by their in-country HR partner.

Summary: When your staffing Partner places you in a new position, the first step in onboarding is to review and confirm your assignment details — your job, start date, pay, and classification. Read everything carefully before you acknowledge it, since these details drive how you are paid.

What an assignment is

An assignment is your specific work placement: the job you are doing, when it starts, how you are classified, and how much you are paid. You can have more than one assignment at a time, and each one has its own details. Confirming your assignment is one of the first steps in onboarding, before you can submit timesheets or get paid.

How to accept your assignment

  1. Log in at app.ascen.com. If this is your first time, use the link in your invitation email to set your password

  2. Your onboarding checklist opens automatically. The first step is to review your position details.

  3. Read through the details carefully (see the checklist below).

  4. If everything looks correct, acknowledge or confirm to continue to the rest of your onboarding steps.

For the full picture of what comes after this step, see Getting started: your onboarding checklist.

What to check before you confirm

Review these details closely, because they affect your pay and your tax reporting:

Job title and role — Make sure the position matches what you discussed with your staffing agency.

Start date — Confirm the date you are expected to begin.

Worksite or client — Where you will be working, if applicable.

Pay rate — Check the amount and whether it is hourly or another arrangement.

Classification — Whether you are an employee or an Independent Contractor. This affects your taxes, your onboarding steps, and your benefits eligibility. If you are unsure what your classification means, see Am I a W-2 employee or a 1099 independent contractor? (US)

If something looks wrong

Do not confirm details you believe are incorrect. If the pay rate, start date, classification, or any other detail does not match what you expected, contact your Staffing Partner or Ascen before you continue. They can correct the assignment so your records and pay are correct from the start. It is much easier to fix this before you begin working than after.

What happens after you accept

Once you confirm your assignment, you continue through the rest of your onboarding checklist — identity verification, personal information, agreements, and (depending on your classification and employer) steps like Form I-9, tax forms, and direct deposit. Your progress is saved as you go, so you can stop and return at any time.

Starting a new assignment later

If you take on a new assignment with the same Staffing Partner, some of your information may carry over, so onboarding can be shorter. If you are placed through a Staffing Partner, you will typically complete a fresh onboarding checklist.
