How long does direct deposit take to reach my bank?

Last updated: August 19, 2026

Applies to: All workers. When your pay lands depends on your worker type and country.

Summary: For workers in the US, your pay generally reaches your bank within one day of your check date (the next business day if that falls on a weekend or bank holiday). International timing depends on the payment method you chose or your in-country setup.

US employees and US independent contractors

Your pay is sent by ACH and generally reaches your bank account within one day of your check (pay) date. US independent contractors are paid by ACH the same way, so the same timing applies.

A few things can shift it by a business day:
- Weekends and bank holidays. If your check date falls on a weekend or a bank holiday, the deposit posts on the next business day.
- Late submission past the daily cut-off. Payments run against a daily ACH cut-off (around 4:15 PM ET). A payment submitted after that day's cut-off may post the next business day.
- Your bank's own posting. After Ascen sends the payment, your bank controls when the funds are fully available — some banks show it as "pending" for a short time.

If your US deposit looks late or is still showing pending, see My upcoming paycheck shows "pending" — will I get paid? for why that happens and what to do.

Employees outside the US and Canada (international EOR)

Your pay timing depends on your in-country setup, so it can differ from the US schedule above. Ask your in-country HR contact — they can tell you when to expect your pay. If you're not sure who that is, email support@ascen.com.

Independent contractors outside the US

We generally aim for your payment to land on your check date, but depending on the payment method (rails) you chose, it may arrive a little sooner or later — roughly ±1–2 days. SWIFT transfers take the longest. Where a local-currency method is available for your country, it's usually the fastest and cheapest — see How you can get paid.

What to do if your deposit hasn't arrived

  1. Check your pay status in the portal. Log in to app.ascen.com and go to Paychecks. Confirm your paycheck shows a paid or processed status for the period.

  2. Allow for a weekend, holiday, or cut-off. If any of those apply, give it until the close of the next business day.

  3. Contact your bank. If your bank shows the deposit as pending, it can tell you exactly when the funds will be available.

  4. Contact Ascen. If your paycheck doesn't appear in the portal at all, or shows a failed or missing status, email support@ascen.com and we'll look into it.

Direct deposit not set up yet?

If you haven't linked a bank account, you won't receive a direct deposit. Go to the Direct Deposit section of your portal to add your bank account (an email verification step is required to confirm it). For help, see How do I change my payroll bank account?
