Why can't I log in to my 401(k) account?
Last updated: November 4, 2026
Applies to: US W-2 employees who have enrolled in the Ascen 401(k). Independent contractors, Canadian T4 employees and international workers do not have an Ascen 401(k), so they will not have this account.
Summary: Your 401(k) account is on the retirement plan's own website, not in the Ascen portal, and that website will not recognize you until your first contribution has been sent to the plan and posted. If you enrolled recently, the site may say it cannot find you, or tell you to contact your employer, until then. Posting can take a week or two after the check date of your first paycheck with a 401(k) deduction. If a contribution should already be there, email support@ascen.com.
Your Ascen login does not work there
Your balance, investment choices, loans, rollovers and withdrawals are managed on the 401(k) plan's website. It has its own login, separate from app.ascen.com, which you set up the first time you visit. Email support@ascen.com and we will send you the website address and the first-time login steps.
We will never ask you to email us your Social Security number or date of birth to help you log in. You enter those yourself, only on the plan's website.
If the site says it cannot find you
The most common reason is that no contribution has reached the plan yet. Check your pay stubs:
Sign in at app.ascen.com and open Paychecks.
Look for a 401(k) deduction on your pay stubs.
If you find one, allow a week or two from that paycheck's check date, then try logging in again.
If none of your pay stubs show a 401(k) deduction, no money has been sent to the plan yet, so there is no account to log in to.
Why there may be no deduction yet
Your election has not taken effect yet. Changes usually take effect from your next payroll. See How to Update Your 401(k) Contribution.
Your contribution was set to 0% before any deduction was taken. Nothing is sent to the plan, so there is no account to log in to. That is expected. If you want to start contributing, see How to Update Your 401(k) Contribution.
Your 401(k) step was not finished. See Having trouble with the 401(k) step during onboarding?
If you still cannot log in
Email support@ascen.com with the check dates of the paychecks that show a 401(k) deduction, and what the plan's website tells you when you try to log in. We will check that your contributions were sent to the plan and give you the plan's own contact for problems with its website.
Where to get help
Email support@ascen.com for joining the 401(k), your contribution amount, deductions on your pay stub, and the plan's website and login steps. Your staffing partner cannot change your 401(k).
