I received a notice that my 401(k) plan or deductions ended — what does it mean?
Last updated: August 25, 2026
Applies to: US workers who have, or have had, a 401(k) deduction through Ascen. Retirement plan enrollment runs through US payroll, so Canadian T4 employees and international workers do not have an Ascen 401(k) and will not receive these notices.
Summary: If you received an email or pay stub notice saying your 401(k) plan or your 401(k) deductions ended, it refers to your retirement plan enrollment and the payroll deduction attached to it. It does not end your employment, close your Ascen account, or stop you from picking up shifts or assignments.
What the notice means
Notices like this are about one thing only: your retirement plan enrollment and the payroll deduction that funds it. "Deductions" in that message means the amount that was being withheld from your paycheck and sent to the plan — not a deduction being taken from you now, and not a charge.
A 401(k) enrollment or deduction can change or stop for reasons that have nothing to do with your standing as a worker, such as a change in your contribution election, a plan-year or eligibility change, or a period with no qualifying earnings to deduct from.
What it does not mean
It does not mean you have been terminated or deactivated.
It does not mean you can no longer pick up shifts or accept assignments.
It does not mean you owe money.
It does not affect your other benefits elections.
If you want to confirm you are still active, email support@ascen.com and ask — we can check your status directly and tell you.
How to check and change your contribution
You can generally change your 401(k) contribution amount at any time; retirement contributions are not restricted by the benefit-election change rules that apply to your health plans. To start, stop, or change your contribution, contact support@ascen.com. See How to Update Your 401(k) Contribution.
Questions about the plan itself
For questions about your account balance, investment choices, vesting, loans, rollovers, or a distribution, those are handled by the retirement plan's administrator rather than in your Ascen portal. Email support@ascen.com and we will point you to the right plan contact for your account.
