Sharing assignment profit with a split partner

Last updated: July 30, 2026

Summary: A split partner is another partner who shares in your profit on a specific
assignment — for example a referring agency or a recruiting partner. You set it per
assignment with the partner's email and a percentage; Ascen then calculates and pays their
share automatically each time the assignment is billed and paid.

What a split partner is

Sometimes two partners work an assignment together — one holds the client relationship while
the other sourced the worker, or a referral deserves an ongoing share. Instead of settling up
outside the platform, you can name a split partner on the assignment and Ascen handles the
split for you.

The percentage you choose applies to your gross profit on that assignment (your bill rate
minus the worker's pay and associated costs) — not to the total invoice. The assignment form
shows a live example as you type: e.g. at a 50% split, $1,000 of profit means $500 to your
split partner and $500 to you.

How to set it

  1. Open the assignment (when creating it, or by editing an existing one).

  2. Enter the split partner's email — this must be the email of an existing Ascen
    partner
    . You can't split with a company that isn't a partner yet.

  3. Enter the split percentage.

  4. Save. If the split partner hasn't logged in before, they'll automatically receive an
    invitation to the platform.

A few rules:

  • The split partner must already be an Ascen partner. If a new company wants to be a
split partner, they first need to sign up as a partner on Ascen — once their partner
account exists, you can add their email to the assignment.

  • The split partner can't be you (the assignment's primary partner).

  • The percentage can be anywhere from 0–100%.

  • To remove a split partner, clear the email field and save.

How the split partner is paid

You don't need to do anything — when the client pays an invoice for the assignment, Ascen
calculates the split partner's share for that period and pays it to them directly as its own
distribution. Your own distribution for the assignment is reduced by the same amount.

The split applies to billing periods going forward from when you set it.

What the split partner can see

The split partner sees the assignment and its timesheets in their own partner portal, and
receives their distributions like any other payout. Your client does not see the split
arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

What if the company I want to split with isn't on Ascen yet?
They need to sign up as an Ascen partner first — the split partner field only accepts the
email of an existing partner. Once their partner account is created, add their email to the
assignment.

Can I change the percentage later?
Yes — edit the assignment. The new percentage applies to billing periods generated after the
change.

Does the split partner see my other assignments or rates?
No. They only see the assignments where they are named as the split partner (plus their own).

Can I split with more than one partner on the same assignment?
No — one split partner per assignment.
