Does Ascen match 401(k) contributions?
Last updated: October 28, 2026
Applies to: US W-2 employees who can join the Ascen 401(k). Independent contractors, Canadian T4 employees and international workers do not have an Ascen 401(k), so this does not apply to them.
Summary: No. Ascen does not match 401(k) contributions, and your staffing agency or the client cannot add money to your Ascen 401(k) in any other way. The money in your account is money you chose to save from your own pay, and your own contributions are always 100% yours (fully vested) from the day they are deducted.
What the Ascen 401(k) offers
A Traditional (pre-tax) 401(k) and a Roth 401(k). You can use either one, both, or neither.
For each one you choose a percentage of your pay or a fixed dollar amount.
You can contribute up to the annual limit set by the IRS, not by Ascen. If you are 50 or older you can also make extra catch-up contributions. The IRS usually raises the limit each year.
No employer match and no other employer contribution.
No extra cost to your agency or the client for you to take part.
Is my 401(k) vested?
Vesting schedules apply only to money an employer puts into your account. Your own contributions, and any money you roll in from a previous employer's plan, always belong to you in full. Because Ascen does not add employer money, there is no vesting period to wait out: if you leave, your whole balance is yours to keep in the plan, roll over to another plan or IRA, or withdraw.
Taking the money out as cash before retirement age usually means income tax and may mean an early-withdrawal penalty. Talk to a tax professional before you withdraw. This is general information, not tax or financial advice.
Changing what you contribute
You can change your contribution, or stop it by setting it to 0%, at any time during the year. See How to Update Your 401(k) Contribution. If the 401(k) step in onboarding will not take your amount, see Having trouble with the 401(k) step during onboarding?
Seeing your balance
Your balance, investment choices, loans, rollovers and withdrawals are handled on the 401(k) plan's own website, not in the Ascen portal. If you need the login steps, email support@ascen.com.
Where to get help
Email support@ascen.com for questions about joining the 401(k), your contribution amount, or deductions on your pay stub. Your staffing agency cannot change your 401(k).
