Where do I find my assignment's end date?

Last updated: September 21, 2026

Applies to: anyone working on an Ascen assignment who wants to know when it is due to finish — W-2 employees, independent contractors, Canadian employees and international workers alike. Everyone on an assignment has one, so this applies whatever your worker type.

Summary: Open Assignments in your Ascen portal to see your assignment, including its start date and an end date if one was entered. Many assignments have no end date at all, and that is normal — it means the work is open-ended, not that it is about to stop. Where an end date is shown, it is the date your staffing Partner scheduled the assignment to end, so your Partner is the right person to confirm or extend it.

Where to look

  1. Log in at app.ascen.com.

  2. Open Assignments from the menu.

  3. Open your current assignment. Its start date is shown, along with an end date if your Partner entered one.

This is the same record your staffing Partner sees, so if they have added or changed an end date it will appear here too.

If no end date is shown

This is common and it is not an error or an oversight on your record. An end date is optional on many assignments, so plenty of them are set up open-ended and simply run until someone ends them. A blank end date means:

  • Nobody has set a finish date for your work. It is not ending tomorrow, and it is not overdue.

  • There is no date for us to quote you, which is why we will point you at your Partner rather than give you one.

Travel assignments are the exception — those are always set up with an intended end date, because the length of the assignment affects how travel stipends are treated. See How long can I work in the same area on travel assignments?.

What the end date does and does not mean

The end date on an assignment is an expected finish date: what was anticipated when the assignment was set up or last updated. It is useful for planning, but it is not a commitment on either side, and two things follow from that:

  • An assignment can be extended past it. If the work continues, your Partner updates the assignment or sets up an extension. The date sitting in the record does not stop that.

  • An assignment can end before it. Assignments end for ordinary reasons — the client's need changes, the project finishes early. An assignment can also be closed automatically after a long period with no hours recorded against it, which sometimes surprises people who are between shifts rather than finished.

So the date in the portal answers "what was planned" and not "what will happen". For the latter, ask your Partner.

Who to ask about what

This question sits on the line between two different teams, and asking the right one saves you days:

  • Your staffing Partner — how long the assignment is expected to run, whether it is being extended, what happens next, and any end date written into a contract they hold with the client. They are the ones who negotiate and set the dates, so they are the only people who actually know.

  • Ascen, at support@ascen.com — what your assignment record currently shows, and anything about your employment with us: pay, taxes and tax forms, your pay stubs, benefits, employment verification, or a document you have been asked to sign. We can tell you what the record says; we cannot tell you what your Partner intends.

If you are not sure who to ask, see Who to contact and when.
