When will I get COBRA information after my health coverage ends?
Last updated: October 6, 2026
Applies to: US W-2 employees who were enrolled in health benefits through Ascen and whose assignment has ended, or who are between assignments. Independent contractors, Canadian T4 employees and international workers are not on these plans, so this does not apply to them.
Summary: Information about continuing your coverage under COBRA comes after your Ascen coverage has actually ended, not when your assignment ends. Coverage normally carries on for a while after your last paycheck, so if it is still active you will not have received anything yet. Email support@ascen.com and we can tell you when your coverage is expected to end.
Why you have not heard anything yet
Your health premium comes out of each paycheck. When the paychecks stop, the deductions stop, and the plan cancels only after a set period without them:
Weekly-billed plans (most plans) cancel after 5 weeks without a premium deduction.
Monthly-billed plans cancel at the end of the month in which the premiums stop.
Until then you are still covered, so there is nothing to continue yet. COBRA information is typically sent once coverage has ended. See What happens to your health coverage between assignments for the full rules.
If another assignment is coming
If you start a new assignment within 13 weeks of the last one ending, your previous elections can be put back as they were, so you may not need to continue coverage at all. Ask your staffing Partner whether more work is coming and when, because that date decides which rule applies to you.
How to find your coverage end date
Email support@ascen.com with your full name, the email on your Ascen account, and your last day worked. We can check the date of your last paycheck with a premium deduction and tell you when your coverage is expected to end.
If you are moving to other coverage, such as a spouse's plan or a Marketplace plan, find out your end date early. Losing coverage is itself a qualifying event under most other plans and generally opens a window to join that plan. See What is a Qualifying Life Event?.
Once your coverage has ended
Read the COBRA information carefully as soon as it arrives: it sets out your options and any deadlines. If your coverage has ended and you have not received it, email support@ascen.com. Your plan documents describe your rights in full; see Where can I view the Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs)?.
Who to contact
Ascen (support@ascen.com): your coverage end date, reinstating your elections after a break, and COBRA information you expected and have not received.
Your staffing Partner: whether another assignment is coming and when it starts.
Your health plan: claims and what your coverage includes while you are enrolled. See Who do I contact about my healthcare benefits?.
