Can I split my pay between two bank accounts?

Last updated: September 4, 2026

Applies to: everyone we pay — US W-2 employees, independent contractors, Canadian T4 employees.

Summary: No. Each worker has one bank account on file for direct deposit, and your full net pay goes to that one account. We can't send part of a paycheck to a second bank.

What this means in practice

  • One account at a time. The account you set up in your Ascen portal receives the whole payment. There's no option to add a second account or to send a percentage or fixed amount somewhere else.

  • You can change which account it is, whenever you like. Updating your direct deposit details replaces the account on file. There's no limit on how often you can change it.

  • A change applies to the next payroll run, not to a payment that's already been sent. If you update your bank details on payday, that day's deposit may still land in the old account.

If you want your pay divided between accounts

Set up the split at your bank instead of with us. Most banks and credit unions let you create an automatic transfer or a standing rule that moves a set amount into savings or into a second account each time a deposit arrives. That gets you the same result, and it stays under your control if your pay amount changes from week to week.

Where to update your bank details

Log in at app.ascen.com and open Direct Deposit. You can connect your bank by signing in to it, or enter your routing and account numbers manually. Manual entry sends a verification code to your email address, so keep an eye out for it — the account isn't active until it's verified.

If your pay is sent to a pay card or an app wallet rather than a bank account, the same principle applies: one destination, and your full net pay goes to it.

Who to contact

  • Ascen — support@ascen.com: direct deposit setup, changing the account on file, a deposit that hasn't arrived, pay stubs, and tax forms.

  • Your bank: setting up an automatic transfer between your own accounts.
