What is Ascen?

Summary: Ascen is an Employer of Record (EOR) and Agent of Record (AOR) built specifically for the staffing industry. We become the legal employer (or paying agent) for staffing agencies' workers — handling onboarding, payroll, taxes, insurance, benefits, and compliance — so agencies can place workers across the US, Canada, and beyond without building all of that infrastructure themselves.

What we do

Ascen provides the back-office employment infrastructure behind a staffing placement:

  • Compliant onboarding — work-eligibility verification, documents, and required training

  • Payroll — paying workers (often weekly) and withholding and remitting taxes

  • Insurance — workers' compensation and liability coverage

  • Benefits — health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans for eligible employees

  • HR and compliance — navigating federal, state, and local employment law

  • Background checks and screening where required

For employees, Ascen is the Employer of Record. For independent contractors, Ascen acts as the Agent of Record. See those articles for the difference.

Who we work with

Ascen works with staffing agencies and talent platforms — not directly with their end clients. Your staffing partner recruits and manages the worker and owns the client relationship; Ascen is the employer or paying agent in the background.

We focus only on the staffing and contingent-workforce industry, which is why the platform is built around hourly work, timesheets, and the three-party (partner / worker / client) relationship.

The three parties in a placement

  • Your staffing partner — recruited and placed you and manages your assignment and schedule.

  • Ascen — your Employer or Agent of Record: payroll, taxes, benefits, and compliance.

  • The client — the company where the work happens.

A note on branding

Your staffing partner may white-label the platform with their own logo and colors, so you might not always see the Ascen name when you log in. That's expected — your pay stubs, tax forms, and employment records are all handled by Ascen regardless of the branding shown.
